Every day, we have the privilege of helping seniors navigate Medicare, and many share the same questions and concerns about Medicare Supplements. In this article, we want to highlight some of the most frequently asked questions. These answers are general, so if something resonates with you, please reach out and we can talk through your specific situation.
Can my doctor reject my Medicare Supplement?
If your doctor accepts Medicare, they must accept your Medicare Supplement.
Can I travel with my Medicare Supplement?
Yes. You can use it anywhere in the country that accepts Medicare.
Will my rates go up based on my specific health?
No. Rate increases apply to everyone in your state who has the same carrier and plan. An insurance company cannot raise your rate because of your personal claims history.
Can I change my Medicare Supplement if I receive an increase I’m unhappy with?
Yes. You can switch, but you must qualify medically for a new plan.
I continued to work past 65 and am new to Part B. Can I enroll in a Supplement at any time?
Yes. Your Supplement can begin the same day your Part B starts.
I don’t take many prescription drugs. Can I skip the Part D plan?
Yes, but if you enroll later, you’ll pay a higher premium due to the late-enrollment penalty.
I heard Plan F disappeared. Is this true?
Partly. Plan F is no longer available to people who became eligible for Medicare after 2020. If your Medicare began before then, you can still buy Plan F.
Is a Medicare Supplement worth it?
Yes. A Supplement covers the 20% that Medicare does not pay and removes most out-of-pocket costs. That 20% has no cap, so having a Supplement provides strong financial protection. Satisfaction rates are high because these plans work well and rarely bring surprises.
